This guy was in about the same place as the flamingo tongue. I altered the color becaues in the natural light the white shell got lost in the equally white sand. Any other suggestions on this? I can post the original if anyone wants to see that too.

The 1st thing is it is too centered - you could (I whisper) crop the left side a little bit. The camera angle is a little high but it may not have been possible to get lower. If you could have gotten lower and closer the impact would be better. Smart to alter the color, you might want to use the burn tool and blur tool on the front gravel to get a little more separation and pop and blend in the small shadow on the left side.
Lower would have been better I agree but I didnt bring the shovel on that dive
I will try the blur-ing idea, but I like the way it is centered, I know the 'rule' of thirds but I like the center framing in this particular case. Anyone else?

I have no problem with the centered position on this image either. There is absolutely only one object of interest and if you would be looking at it you would turn your head so it was in the center of your field of view. If you do that with normal vision then I don't see why that wouldn't also be the natural position for a photo. If there had been an interesting backdrop then you could have put the subject off centre so it forms still a prominent part of the image but without sucking all the focus to it.

I like this version also, thank you
Here - a few adjustments with a lower perspective
