My current (and first digital camera) is a Nikon 5400, which has terrible low-light focusing capability, and I've learned my lesson. At least that particular one. I'm thinking about a Canon A640. Reviews indicate that the focus assist results in good focusing ability in low-light situations, but I'm assuming the lens port will block the assist lamp since it blocks the onboard strobe. Any comments, especially based on personal experience?
Thanks.
Steve:
The assist is not really near the camera flash. It is so close to the viewfinder that it could not possibly be blocked. Assuming you are using a strobe, the assist is blocked by the diffuser anyway.
I think the camera focuses fairly well underwater. Not perfect mind you but still pretty good. It helps to use the center focus feature.
If you will PM me I will give you my experiences with the Ike housing and the A640.
