Where to Custom Make Housing for Sony R1?

  1. Hi there everyone,

I bought a Sony DSC-R1 a couple of months back thinking that I will be able to buy an underwater housing for it. Originally Ikellite says they will provide housing, but after I bought the camera, they announce that they will no longer release it.

The camera is great, I really love it, but now I'm stuck with a camera that I cannot take underwater :(

I've check Ikelite plus a few other dealers, but none will help me, even to custom make one. I hear that some photographers actually custom make their housing, but I've no idea where to find a company that will do that for me. Please help!!

my alternative is to dump this camera (which I really enjoy) and buy myself a new Olympus E-330 + housing +lens port housing... which is kinda pricey (I'm not really that professional).

Before this Sony, I was using Olympus C-8080 which was also great, but I got it flooded.

So, any help/pointer will be appreciated. Thanks a million.

  2. can't say i am familiar with your camera, but.. i think you may find in the long run it would be cheaper and easier to go the route of purchasing a camera with an available housing and selling your sony. In the long run i think a custom job will end up costing you more...

There is a member here who makes his own housings, perhaps be will see this and point you in the right direction.

AFAIK, too many functions of R1 are controlled by joystick which is next to impossible to control mechanically from the housing.
