Back in feb/ 2001 there was 2 operators in Kaikoura, South Island . I didn't go because of bad weather but the dolphins and sperm whales were great for topside pics. Also the seals colony at shore.

The diving at Poor Knights is excellent.

    Buen viaje

  3. I was just in New Zealand in Oct and dived in the Poor Knights with Dive! Tutukaka. They were an excellent bunch of people and offered service well beyond any of my expectations. You would need to contact them for specifics about trying to dive with the makos or blues, chance encounters of this would be at best, chance. We did see brownies off the anchor line in the Poor Knights.

    Contact Kate at Dive! Tutukaka

She and her staff were fabulous!

  4. I've been to 2 areas in NZ for mako and blue sharks. The Kaikoura outfit has since turned to a fishing charter (funny how viewing is much less popular than catching) and also Surfit in Gisborne which is in the north island.

Gisborne was so so since they follow the fisher men. I left after a day when they landed a Mako (despite saying it would be catch and release) I didn't want to pay for them to fish out more sharks.
