  1. Here is an interesting idea. Many on this forum are familiar with Ashes and Snow and Gregory Cobert the artist. Here he shows an awesoe video and presents a very interesting idea. It would be interesting to here some thoughts on this.

  2. very nice work, there is a link on the movie page to his exhibition web site too. The Animal Copyright stuff is an interesting idea.

  3. It is not clear that this could work even in theory. Copyrights are assigned to creators not the subjects. If you believe that anyone using an image of a "wild" animal in commerce pay into a fund that is clearly going to infringe on the copyright of the guy who made the image. Don't hold your breath

  4. I have a tendency to agree with you; I'm not sure such 'strong arm' tactics can really be effective, and could really be percieved as blackmail and may backfire. Despite Colbert's prowess as an artist, I think he displays a certain arrogance, as well as ignorance of legal issues.

  5. I'd agree that Copyright was definitely the wrong word to choose. There would be a much better word that doesn't immediately strike horror into minds of us creators.

Really it's just like any other enviro-brand; pay your $s and receive rights to use a logo that helps position your corporation where you want it to be. Differrence being currently only good corporate citizens (usually, but not always of course) get to align themselves with a cause, everyone else gets off without contributing. If this type of thing became mainstream, all corporates would be contributing, if they didn't want to, thats fine, they just end up on the list of companies that don't contribute. Whether anyone cares about that is for the market to decide.

As for blackmail, maybe its about time the tables were turned...

While he's not asking for 1% of yours or my household budget or take-home pay, you could argue that we'd pay all in the end as prices went up so corporates could keep the same profit margin.

Oh well, no use trying I guess....
