Amphibico Phenom Port Upgrade Results

  1. Folks will remember that about 6 months ago Amphibico offered to modify the WA ports of peoples Phenoms to try to rectify the vignetting problem, for US$200 for existing owners. The idea of charging for this as opposed to offering it as a free "fix to an existing problem" raised a few eyebrows around here but i for one was tired of losing 10% of the frame by having to zoom in so i opted to pay for the upgrade, was a good excuse to get my scratched port replaced too... :P

I got my port back on friday.

Took it out today and happy to report that at 00 (full wide) can't really see any vignetting at all, but i will use it at 02 (2%) just to be safe. I have my filter recessed into the camera itself as opposed to on a flip arm.

Nicely done Amphibico.... :D This screen shot is at full wide (00) as you can see.. no vignetting..

  3. So Mike, do you know what mods they made to the port? Did they move the vertex back? What is the new FOV?

  4. Here you go Drew

This picture might help you to see what they do.

The one on the left is the modified one.
