Bali October 2006

  1. Well, i finally finished my Bali pics from October when i went to Scuba Seraya in Tulamben. I only shot a few days after the workshop i was teaching for a week and i don't take my camera when i teach. So this is stuff from i think 3 days worth of dives. As you can tell, an amazing variety of critters on just a few dives! Saw some great opportunities when doing student dives but... didn't get a chance to go back to a few places i wanted to... too far :glare: to get to Gili Selang with the small boat... But OOO when we went there with the big boat during the workshop, OH MAN! what a dive site that is.... i can't imagine how many pics i would have and how much longer it would take to go through them if i was shooting the whole time! What a fantastic area for photographers and really under rated compared to all the press that Lembeh etc gets.

Most of these shots are from Seraya Secrets with some others from the Liberty wreck and a couple of the other sites in and around Tulamben, including my first real pygmy photo... :D I didn't do too much out of the ordinary this time around, mostly just getting shots of all the cool critters that were new to me.

  2. You can't just post a photo like that last one and not say anything about it. :D Anemone fish with a tornado of Jacks behind it...so cool. I don't think I've seen a shot like that before. Might take some time and luck to really perfect it - you need the ambient lighting, viz, location, jacks, reef, etc all to perform perfectly for you at the same time. Actually, I bet that would make a really sweet video...hmmm

    Nice work and thanks!

  3. Hi Mike,

when I saw your great image of clowns and jackfish tornado behind, it reminds me on one opportunity to take a perfect shot at the same place. I was snorkeling without the camera on the drop off and did not see the tornado. At the beginning of the wall under nice gorgonian I found a scorpionfish. I went down and while watching the scorpionfish the tornado moved right behind my back but I still could not see it. I turned around, made one fast move and scared the jacks so they made that scary crack sound, but did not move away. The tornado "ate" me! This was just perfect to take a shot of scorpion fish under the gorgonian and backgound totaly filled with jacks very close to be lit up. Ooooh, s..t! I ran to hotel for a camera, but I found the jacks on different place in modified formation. I was following the tornado for over 2 hours looking for a nice object to shoot it with, burned my back, hoping it moves to the scorpionfish. I did not...
