Nexus D200 and Inon's STTL

  1. My understanding is Inon use both slave and TTL technology to achieve what they call syncronized TTL.

The Nexus D200 housing allows the in built flash to be popped up.

The Inon fibre optic cable then sees when the built in flash fires and fires as well (slave?)

The light coming in the lens tell the built in flash when to turn off which in turn shuts down the Inon. (TTL)

    Now my questions are:

    1. Where is the end of the fibre optic cable positioned?

    2. Can it see my other external strobe and therefore not turn off until it does?

I want to hard wire in my existing YS300 on manual as the second strobe.

    Thanks Mary

  2. Hi Mary,

Maybe this page will help. It shows a bunch of pictures of the system.

Any preflash mimic TTL strobe that you attach via the fibre optic cable will mimic the D200's internal pop up flash., just like in a digital compact rig.

As for the cable, one end goes in one of the fibre ports on top of the housing. The other goes into the fibre slave port on the strobe. On the Inon this is a sleeve that screws in place over the slave sensor on the bottom. On a YS-110 the port is in the front of the strobe body, between the flash tubes.

I don't understand what you want to do with the YS-300, but you could probably run it off a Heinrichs Weikamp Digital Adapter. That would allow the YS-300 to serve as a mimic slave TTL unit, probably slaving off the Inon unit unless someone makes you up a fibre to Heinrichs adapter. It wouldn't be at all difficult.

  3. You are much better off with hard wired strobes, if you can get them.

Something like the sea&sea iTTL converter, or the heinrich iTTL converter, or an ikelite housing with their own iTTL circuit...
