Recommend a strobe for the Canon SD550

  1. I have a Canon SD550 with Canon's underwater housing, the WPDC80. Any recommendations for a strobe that gives decent results? I have a pretty good tray and arm. The camera is good for underwater video but in less than perfect conditions I get too much backscatter with the on-camera flash.

  2. Your are likely looking at either the inon d-2000, or z-240, or a Heinrichs optical digital adapter with an ikelite DS51 strobe.

I recently got a heinrich converter for use with a sony v3, which was NOT allowing TTL to work with any sea&sea or ikelite slave systems I guess the preflash was so dim, or the timing was so tight, that those optical slave systems could not quite hack it. But the heinrichs DA just works, and works perfectly.

Your best bet is to search here, and then to contact Ryan at reef photo, one of the sponsors here, and ask him what is known to work with your camera.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. Sunds like a plan. Have a great New Year.
