Fisheye HG20 with the new LED48?

5 posts
  1. So I have a basic Cannon Elura 90 in a Ike housing and used my Fisheye HG20 for a video light. It's a little yellow but worked fine for my simple needs. Thinking of adding another but would like to try the Fisheye LED. I assume it is a more white light, do you think it is ok to mix the two?

  2. The only problem is that you may not have even lighting.

The color temperature for the HG20 is 3400k and the color temperature for the HG48 is 6800K. (at full power)

There are filters available that bring the HG20 to between 4000k and 5500k, but you would still have a difference, even using the filters.

    Hopefully that helps a little.

  3. Thanks, looks like best option would be sell mine and buy two of the new LED. Hmmmmm how can I rationalize this to the wife.

If you figure that part out, let us know. I'm sure there are plenty of people with that same delimma!

    Good Luck!

I just purchased one of these 48LED lights from Fisheye; I am using it as a backup light during night dives, etc. I think you might be disappointed using the LED light for video unless a filter was used to correct the color and a diffuser to widen the beam. I think you could get away with running a CC filter on the camera/housing to fix the blue tint, however a diffuser would be a requirement. Even at 5-6 feet, the beam is still only a foot wide; it won't fill my FOV at any useable distance.

Don't take this the wrong way, I love the light for what it is and it fits my application perfectly. However the light is extremely blue and very narrow (but bright). I don't own the HG20, but everything I read boasts of its wide beam with no hotspot. I would say the LED is the exact opposite.
