Nikon D80 right choice???

3 posts
  1. Hi,

I have been contemplating a couple of years about getting into the world of dSLRs and I am finally about to go for it.

After looking around for a while the Nikon D80 seems to be the right choice for me. ( No old glass, so I am free to choose B) ). I just wanted to hear with you guys if I have missed out on something here?

    I have been looking at:

    * Olympus E-330: Too expensive wideangle

    * Canon 400D: Too small grip for Topside

    * Nikon D200: Does not seem to offer me anything motivating me to go for the cost

Are you D80 users out there happy with it? is is something that I have overlooked?

What houses have you been using? Are you happy with the Ikelite housing?

Which makro and WW are happiest using?

Ps! I know that there has been a lot of posts close to this, but these are my questions

  2. i think the D80 is a great choice, that is what i would get if i was upgrading. The D200 doesn't offer THAT much of an advantage for the average user, especially underwater.

Housing options are covered in lots of threads here, all depends on your budget and what exactly you are looking for and what is currently available.

Lenses you can start with, 60mm for macro and 12-24 (nikon and tokina) or 10-22 (sigma) WA zoom is a good place to start. or the 16mm from Nikon.

Then eventually add the 105mm macro and the 10.5mm fisheye

    Have fun

  3. I would buy it without hesitation - I love mine! Pick it up and take 1 picture with it. I think you'll be very impressed. The 10.5 is awesome but tricky I also like the Sigma 15mm.

As far as housings go, I still like my Sea and Sea as a solid value/mid level purchase.

Best of luck and go for it!
