Hello Gang,
Does anyone have experience aboard the Peter Hughes boat in Tabago? I'm thinking of trying it out and would love to hear your thoughts if you have been on board and dove there?
Thank you,
paquito

I have only heard from other people tat tobago and liveaboard diving there is quite good .. and a little different from elsewhere.
Peter Hughes however I haven't heeard much about since the accident in Belize on Wave Dancer during Hurricane Iris
Before that he had a good reputation.
I did a trip on the Wind Dancer when it was in Tobago last year. Peter was onboard that week and was my dive buddy. We had a great trip.
The week I was there we had some rainy weather due to a hurricane to the north, but the diving was pretty spectacular compared to other Caribbean diving I've done. Vis was a little down and cloudy skies brought the light down a bit but I still got spectacular shots.
As with any destination, some of the dives were more spectacular than others. About half the dives I did were outstanding! Large pinnacles surrounded by walls covered with life. Largest brain coral I've ever seen anywhere. Lots of turtles, seahorses, rays, reef sharks, lobster, large green eels, flying gunard, barracuda, large sponges, sea fans and plenty of fish. I also saw the pygmy (cherub) angelfish and flameback angelfish for my first time. The guides were fantastic in taking us to the best big stuff and finding the little critters. I shot about 50/50 macro vs wide angle.
This boat is nice but isn't one of the newer boats in the PHD fleet. You can see a virtual tour of the boat here. You've got plenty of space, good clean accommodations, great food, a very good crew, and all the ammenities we've come to expect on all the Peter Hughes boats (robes, mints on the bed pillows, snacks between dives, wine with dinner, etc.).
There are some nice land tours on the island of Tobago also.
Hope this helps!
Bonnie

I've said it once, but will continue to say it....
Do not judge all PH boats by what happened on the Wave Dancer. Those boats are, usually, owner operated and follow PH guidlines to fall under his "Umbrella". Each boat is controlled by the captain, not PH directly. As such, you should not tar and feather all PH boats by the decisions made by one captain.

I have spent many good dives on the Stardancer in PNG. It is an "ultimate" boat that is well run.
Do not hesitate to charter on a PH boat.
