Ike tray/handles paint flaking

  1. I'm after suggestions for dealing with piant flaking on my 3yo Ikelite tray/handles.

The housing has been and still is constantly used and owes me nothing.

Considering stripping it back and painting it a funky colour.

  2. If the tray is aluminum, suggest hard anodize coating. If you just repaint, it will eventually chip & the same oxidation will occur. It may look ugly but is structurally ok.

  3. The problem would be removing the rubber handles.

They are not made to be detachable.

  4. If you email or call Ikelite, they might replace it for you.

I had the paint go on one go like that, after 2 years or so, and they replaced it.

I do not believe the base is aluminum anyway.

  5. Hi Andy,

The Ike handles are pinned from the side. If you drill the pins, then the handles just pull out...

I have a ULCS base here if you want to try that. It has no handles at the moment but I will have a look around.

  6. Thanks Bruce,

    I love pulling things apart.

It's the reassembling I sometimes have problems with.

    Now, what's a good colour.......
