Hawaiian superferry to kill whales in our national humpback sanctuary

  1. The Hawaiian Superferry is being pushed through silently, with no review, by Hawaiian Governor Lingle, and crew, with no environmental impact statement required.

The chairperson and one major council members of the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary council, are now paid employees of the Hawaiian Superferry Corporation!!!!

Can you believe the level of corruption?!?!

The HSF got approved, by claiming they would use sonar to avoid whales, but that will never work, unless you use sonar intense enough to harm the whales anyway! So they are dropping the sonar, and no one is complaining!

This has got to be challenged.

These same ferries, running in Canary Islands, are killing 7 or more sperm whales every year.

In addition to humpbacks, they are likely to kill the more seriously endangered Hawaiian monk seals, and lead to invasive species crossing all over the Hawaiian Islands, and nasty pollution due to burning more gas per passenger mile, than a jet airliner.

Please see these links, and help spread the word, and help put pressure on the Hawaiian government.

The above info has been put together by the Pilot Whale man, Lee Tepley:

A Hawaiian State Senate bill is shortly to be introduced by 4 senators, perhaps a call to their toll free numbers, and/or an email would help:

    Senator English:

    Senator Hooser:

    Senator Tsutsui:

The governor takes email, phone, & fax:

Ask her to follow the law, and require an EIS for the Superferry.

    Any other ideas?

    Don

  2. Wow, 68 views, and no comments or help. After the sharkfin soup action, I thought this would draw attention.

There are now Hawaiian house and senate bills, that will force an EIS, before any further construction, or running the ferry.

    House Bill 702:

    Senate Bill 1276:

    Bill Status:

    Help please!
