How many of you with Subal housings equipped with the optical eye piece remove it when shipping/traveling?

If you are talking about the GS 180, mine at least doesn't come off.

The GS view finder is easy to remove - you just need a pair of pointy nosed or circlip pliers.
Takes less than 60 secs once you have it done a few times.
I find it is much easier to pack my housing for shipping with both the viewfinder and handles removed.

When you take the eye peice off is there an o-ring that seals the GS to the back? do you have a photo of what it looks like when removed? I'm asking as I have dust behind mine and wondered about removing it to clean. Thx

I would say that it is not difficult to remove the eyepiece. But it is not that easy either!
I agree with Peter that it can be done pretty quickly - but it should not be done unless you know what you are doing and have the right tools.

Hmm..I was under the impression it was quite hard. This sounds doable. I dont suppose someone could put a little photo show online on how to do this and what tools you need? Packing would indeed be so much easier. Also, can you actually purchase the original viewfinder so you can swap em?

The picture above should do the trick.
All you need is a pair of circlip pliers that will fit the two holes on the nut. To attach the viewfinder insert it from the outside of the housing back, put the washer on the inside of the housing back and do up the nut using the circlip pliers. To take it off is the reverse process.

Excellent stats. I might get one now with the D80 housing.

Is the D80 a backup camera Alex ?
Or is the D2x just getting too heavy to carry about ?
