Praise for Silent World, Key Largo

  1. Hello all. My girlfriend and I just returned from our first big dive trip, where I finally got the courage to bring my Ikelite-housed D70 underwater. We had a great week with Silent World, Key Largo. They operate a small dive boat, and the staff and guides were very friendly and helpful. They had a nice personalized, relaxed feel. It was definitely a nice experience for my first time getting used to diving with a camera.

Just thought I’d contribute this for people trying to sort through the many shops in Key Largo. Key Largo is not very built up, so be sure to come prepared with plans to occupy yourselves when diving is over, if you plan on staying in town for many days. We used Florida Bay Outfitters for a couple kayak tours, which was a nice activity after morning dives.

One other thing: pack the dramamine when diving off Florida in the winter. The seas are quite rough this time of year!

Here’s a website with some photos I took. There not anything amazing, but I think they were fun for a first attempt. I used a Tonkina 12-24 and a Nikon 105 micro with only one ikelite strobe.

Thanks everyone for all your info on the forums!

    Dan

Nice to hear you had such a great trip.

  3. Looks like it was nice and calm and clear under the waves, fortunately.

Come back in the summer, even more fun. Folks who travel far to the keys to dive, should also plan a side trip to Key West to spice things up a bit.
