  1. and what kind of shots do you get? most people i know are all macro people but thats never really been my thing. i was wondering what kind of wide angle shots people get, the vis isnt always the best so i was wondering just how limiting that can be for wide angle photo.

  2. Hi Tmaxx.

Yes, generally the macro lense stays on the camera, but the wide angle comes along on the boat, just in case. Consequently, I'm not very good at WA, but anyway, here's an example of some shots at the oil rigs where we got 100+ foot viz. (BTW, October is apparently the time for that I'm told.)

  3. It really depends upon the dive site and time of year. A lot of the time macro or close-ups are best. There can be opportunities for wide angle.

A very close focusing wide angle lens can help a lot. The old Nikonos 15 mm lens was very good due to it's close focus of 9"

  4. Shooting WA in CA is a matter of adjusting to the moment. Here are some shots for you to review. Some are in the green spring, situational and the fall.

    nice shots

its shots like that batray that i dont want to miss because i have a 60mm macro lens on... most the good dives i have are swimming with sea lions most the dive and i want to get some pictures of them.

is there any fairly wide lenses that may not be true macro but are decent for a few shots

i have a canon 20d and looking to get the housing soon but dont have enought to get the port/strobe and possibly new lens yet

  6. The electric ray was shot with a Nikonos 15mm lens and the other three were shot with a Nikon 10.5 behind an 8-inch dome. You might get away with a Nikon 12-24 so you can still get sealion shots and more wide angle shots.
