Back from Tahiti Trip: SR1/Ike/Expodisc

3 posts
  1. My wife and I just returned from our Tahiti trip using the Sony SR1, Ikelite 6038.90, and Expodisc(s) for MWB. I haven't had time yet to unpack, let alone try to edit some shots to post. A quick recap:

    - Weather was lousy and we only did 3 dives. (That was a bummer.)

    - Camera and housing worked flawlessly.

    - Expodisc was easy to use, but I had some leakage in one of the sealed filter units I created; but that didn't appear to hurt the WB setting, though.

I actually got what I would consider some good footage even though the diving was poor, so I was quite happy although the more experienced people here may not think much of it. Anyway I'll try to edit things up and post some still frames of what I got using the Expodisc as I think that will be of greater interest.

I am planning on selling the Ikelite housing since I will have no chance to use it again until next year when we go on another annual diving trip but I think I'll hang on to the camera for a while until I see more about the newer models and see whether there's enough there to tempt me to switch. I really like this camera and don't know if what I've read so far will get me to use something else.

I don't recommend Tahiti to anyone as a tourist destination after this trip (our first - and last - there), and will expand more on that later, too.

  2. Posted a Trip Report this morning in the "Crazy Dive Stories and Trip Reports" category. (My post yesterday under this section's "Expodisc" thread covered the technicalities.)

  3. (I posted a note here saying I couldn't post the trip report - but I was wrong there, too - the report posted fine.)
