One of the most irritating problems of shooting on tape is the problem of video dropouts, when the picutre data is somehow screwed up while writing to tape. There's been a little plugin to help rectify video dropouts on interlaced material that's been around since FCP was at version 3. The company is called Digital Heaven and the plug is simply called drop out.
With this plugin it is possible to duplicate the underlying fields to cover up the tape errors. Recently I pulled out this pull in to work on a little project in HDV and DVCPRO HD. It worked fine with the 1080i from my Canon HV10 and Sony A1. Obviously being progressive, the DVCPro HD did not have a second field to correct, but the P2 has all but eliminated dropouts ![]()
I won't be doing an indepth review since it's time consuming and the DH guys do a much better job in their demo. For $40, it's not a bad plug-in to have for the tape reliant, as a first recovery tool against drop outs. More devasting drops are the realm of Photoshop, Shake and Aftereffects.
