A few from the Revillagigedos (Socorros)

  1. A couple of days ago I returned from a trip to the Revillagigedos aboard the Nautilus Explorer. This was our first liveaboard dive trip. All of our other dive vacations have been land based. I think I have been spoiled beyond recovery. Not only was the diving excellent, but the boat and crew were first rate. I still have a lot of images to process, but I thought I would share a few highlights. The most amazing encounter is in http://wetpixel.com/forums/index.php?act=S...=16&t=17597

but here are a few more. Click on the images for more detail.

  3. Hey nice Oceanic Manta there.

    Great pics

  4. Looks like a great trip;I have been thinking of it for a while now. What was the water temp, is it 7mm territory. I looked on their website, is it a 24 hour boat ride getting out there?

It was a great trip. I should write a trip report. The water temp was 75F. My wife and I wore 7mm wetsuits and were toasty warm. A 5 mm suit would have been fine too. The trip out to San Benedicto takes around 24 hours, and the trip back (from Roca Partida) takes around 28. You definitely don't have to worry about your no-fly time. It is enforced for you. The trips out and back weren't bad. The boat is very stable which is good since you don't touch dry land for 9 days.

The sea life is amazing. In most locations the water was amazingly clear and blue. We did four dives a day. Even though we weren't rushed, the captain keeps a pretty tight schedule. The diving is pretty advanced. There were strong currents and deep water. You definitely have to keep your wits about you. There were two chase boats in the water at all times and spotters on the main boat in constant radio contact. Everyone was required to have a dive alert, safety sausage, and signal mirror. They took safety seriously and have a good track record, but even so, if something were to happen, you have to realize that you are in the middle of nowhere. There is no coast guard that is going to come to your rescue and you are too far out for heli-transport. There is supposedly a chamber on Socorro maintained by the Mexican military, but it isn't clear that it would be available in case of an accident.
