The Nisshin Maru, processing ship for 4 smaller whaling ships, had an engine fire that threatened to sink it and cause an environmental disaster in the Antartic ocean. Fortunately the fire is under control and water has been pumped out so the risk of the ship dumping its thousands of gallons of fuel oil has been diminished.
Still one crew member is still missing and feared to have perished in the fire.
