  1. Went to Rottnest Island a few weeks ago - weather was perfect, boat wasn't over crowded and the diving wasn't too bad either. These are some of the pics i took that actually turned out.

  6. Sure was and we have two weeks booked there to go and shoot a underwater DVD.

Have to dust off the old dry suits I think though. 21 degrees :)

  7. Nice shots, but 21C is freezing! :) I will spend a few days in Perth in my way to Cocos and Christmas Is and may have time for a day of diving. Can you guys recommend a dive shop?

  8. There are shops on the mainland (Perth) that go over there or you can go with the one on the Island called Malibu Dive

I used Perth Diving Academy in Freo and Dolphin Dive. I liked PDA's big boat (but it can get monster crowded on the weekends). For restaurants, Balthazar in the esplanade and Mead's in Mosman Park. There's a thai place in Freo that's not bad called Sala Thai. It's a block south of the big hotel. I'd stay in Freo vs Perth.

Are you going for the crabs? Isn't it over now?

I am going to collect fish there, I am doing a genetic survey of Indo-Pacific reef fishes... Too bad there will be no crabs, I kind of wanted to see them too.

  11. If you ask in the forums at http://www.diveoz.com.au you should be able to organise a buddy or two to go for a night dive in the Swan River if you want to see Blue Swimmer crabs and some river prawns, there are also heaps (well there was two years ago) of Sea horses in the river, used to guarantee a sighting to my students when I lived over there and never disappointed.

It's the crayfish season you will probably miss, finishes 15 April if memory serves me right.

Perth Diving Academy's Boat is a nice one holds about 40 divers but that's not a lot for the size of the boat (some boats over here take 300 pax) and you can go off with your buddy and do what you want.

  12. Luiz when will you be there.

We are going to have our own boat over there for the two weeks of shooting.

Drew is there anywhere you don't know about :)

  13. Yes... many places... but Perth I know a little bit about. :)

  14. Luiz, if you are in Perth and want to check out the river for crabs, sea horses etc you are more than welcome to come out with myself. Send me an email to deldrid@oceansandearth.com

here are some samples of what the Swan has to offer.
