D80 in D70-housing

I am thinking of remodelling my Ike D70 housing for a D80. Anyone tried it already?

I compared the two camera's and it looks like most buttons and controls are on the same place. The D70 is only a bit higher, which is easy to overcome.

Here are some quick and dirty comparisements based on the mount position.

you will loose your beloved 1/500 synch...

changing the controls (and decoding the ttl) is what ikelite does as well, i suppose. I have no idea how difficult it is to change almost every button (it looks that way, 0,5 cm bigger or smaller will mean a lot.).

At least you will see where controls go wrong with an ikelite housing... There is a thread on somebody changing a 350D to a 400D housing (Sea and sea). The push buttons didnt seem to take much work there.

is ikelite's circuit tailored to the camera ? (otoh, you were using Heinrichs converter)

PS: in the end i did buy DS-50 strobes, so i didnt have need your help on the old strobe use part.....

Depending on the housing,you will need new tray and some modification of control arms..but, it is possible.

No pics of housing, it would not look much different than original. I machined new tray and removed some control arms to get everything to line up. The most difficult part was aligning lens with center of port. In fact, I have a d80 housing from nexus which is an old d70 housing. Nexus was using up inventory and I got one of the first ones. You'll love d80 over d70...unless you need electronic shutter.

Site should be up...unless Apple is doing maintenance..try again.

A friend of my just bought D80, I’ll try to check it also and see hoe much work needed if possible.

My neighbourg is thinking about getting D80 soon. I need to push him to do that quickly and then let me try fitting it inside my housing.

It would be great if I colud make some sort of adapter that could be removed. I could keep D70 as a backup camera.
