I made a graphic showing the working distances infront of the port (between glass and subject) for the
Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM
Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM
using a UK-Germany housing and standard port (for the 60mm) and an extra 60mm port extension ring (for the 100mm)

Their working distances to achieve 1:1 magnification depends on the lens. The distance allowed between the port and the subject can affect how well the subject can be lit. If the subject gets too close the strobe needs to be angled downwards too much resulting in undesirable shadows.
Measured distances in front of the UK-Germany standard port are 65 mm for the EF-S 60mm F/2.8 macro
and 110 mm for the EF 100mm f/2.8 macro using the Standard port plus a 60mm port extension ring.
The 100mm macro requires a minimum extension ring of 40mm and could therefore extend the working distance to 130mm infront of the port glass.
Just in case someone was wondering :-)
