  1. I was just curious when you use the Nikon 60 mm macro do you use it in the auto mode or manual, i need to buy a dome port, they sell it both ways

  2. I always use it in auto, it is very fast. It also works better for macro behind a flat port, not a dome.

  3. Thanks

I have used a 60mm micro lens in a variety of Nexus housings (F4, N90, D70, and now D80). I switched to the Nexus multi-port macro ports so I could use both 60mm and 105 mm lenses and have the ability to switch from auto to manual focus during a dive. I find there are times when auto focus works fine, and other times when I want the control manual focus provides.

  6. One great trick with autofocus.

-set AF to "S" (single servo)

-half press the shutter release to activate AF and focus on your subject

    >>Once AF locks "in focus," it won't change until you fully depress the shutter release or take your finger off of it.

-then you can recompose your shot for critical point of focus and composition

I don't know how far down the dslr line Nikon's MSC switch goes (d70/d80?), so if your camera doesn't have one please disregard my comment.

The 60 works very well in AF, but for the times you want to shoot in MF just set your distance then switch the MSC lever to M. Example: I like shooting Pygmies with the 60 and a wet diopter, but under those conditions the 60 will hunt a bit and miss as well. I just rack out to 1:1, flip MSC to M and move in and out for focus and shoot away. When you want to go back to auto, switch the MSC to C or S. This way there is no need for a focus switch on the lens, or the irritation some housings cause when a diver is trying to half push the shutter lever and hold it there wil composing the shot. ^_^
