Ragged Tooth Shark

  1. There were so many baitfish that I could hardly see my dive buddy and fellow photographer kneeling on the sand just 2m away from me. Suddenly a hole opened in the baitfish and a raggie swam through, a magical moment I was lucky to capture...

  2. Jean, that's a nice shot. I've only been to Infanta for the surfing and whale spotting. I forget that the raggies go that far south to pup.

  3. Nice shot - and tough to get the exposure right at times like that.

    great shot Jean

Im curious, were your strobes on TTL for that shot, or if on manual, did you just happened to have it on the right power setting, or did you have to adjust your strobe power or aperture as soon as you saw the shark? I'd imagine it came by pretty quickly so you had to react instantly....

    thanks

The sharks appear very suddenly and there is no time to adjust settings. This leaves two choices. Either set your strobes to TTL or preset them to the correct setting based on past experience. For this shot I was using a single strobe, a Nikon SB800 speedlight in a Subal SN800 housing, used specifically for its extremely accurate TTL cabability. I am not yet at the level where I have enough confidence in my own experience to chance missing that one off shot! Having said that, you don't learn if you don't try...
