DS 125 Loose reflector ?

5 posts
  1. Help needed from someone who has a DS 125.

Just bought the strobe new and the reflector seems loose to me. Its hard to gauge exactly how much movent but I would guess the reflector assembly slides back and forward in the tube by a little less than 1/8"

Pointing the strobe at the ceiling the modelling light is a circular spot. Pointing it down at the floor results in a darker centre with a bright outer ring. If you shake the unit it rattles. Its not the bulb by the way.

I shipped the first unit back and have just recieved a replacement which is exactly the same. I've spoken to Ikelite service dept and they say it shouldn't move but I'm not entirely sure I got my explanation across properly.

My concern is that if the modelling light beam pattern is affected, so is the strobe beam, the inner and outer reflectors move together.

Is this normal on the 125 please.

  2. Hi,

I have two DS125's and one rattles in the way you describe and one does not.

It has never been a problem to me - I have never bothered to venture inside to figure out why.

  3. One of mine rattles a little bit, but it doesn't make any difference when shooting for me. If you got it from cameras underwater fairly recently then they are obligated to sort it out. If it affects the modelling light it would be enough for y to kick up a fuss. One of mine in the past developed a rattle after one of the crew dropped it, ad sign of damage to the exterior?

  4. Thanks for your replies. I've now had two brand new out of the box units which are the same. Guess they're both faulty.

The modelling light beam cone changes from a a diameter of about 18" when pointing down to 9" diameter when pointing up, both at a distance of 1m.

Thankfully the US vendor is being cooperative at the moment. Hope I get the same result from the UK import duty people.

If it comes thru USPS to royal mail you may have trouble. DHL are great with that though, and it's what Ikelite use normally.

As long as you have your original UK receipt you should be ably to get your money back. Look at Royal Mails break down if it comes throught them... Enjoy the handling fee........
