60mm macro lense any tips welcome?

i have purchased a un 60mm un macro lense pcu-01 and as i am new at using an add on macro lense i would like any tip and techniques in using this lense,i have an cannon a630 8meg p-s with an ike housing and a ike ds125 strobe when using the camera in macro mode i would get within 2-3cm from the subject which made it nearly impossiblre to use the strobe properly would i be correct in saying that if i use the 60mm lense i can move back more and still have the subject magnified,which it would allow the strobe to be used properly,also would i still set the camera to macro mode or not ,would i be better,to use manual setting, i have not been able to us the lense yet as i am waiting for the housing to come back from the states because of a fault , i know the questions are pretty dumb but if you don"t ask you don"t learn, and you got to start from the bottom and work your way up,any help would be appreciated PS would like to know anyone opinion on the 60mm un lense i have good or bad (from people who have used the lense) thanks steve
