Hi guys -
I'm heading to Borneo in late May. The plan is to spend 4-5 days diving in Layang Layang, and 4 days in Sipadan. The goal is u/w photography. At LL & Sipadan, I want the "big stuff" - sharks, mantas & more. I'll also do a day of macro at Mabul.
I wanted to hear from people who've been there as to what lenses will work there.
I have 4 lenses that I use for u/w work: 100 macro, 10-20, 17-70 and 10-17fisheye. I could take alll 4, but I'd prefer not to: as I plan to do some wildlife work, I'll also be traveling with a 500/4 and a 300/4. So the more I can reduce my load, the better. The 100 will be going anyway, as I have 1 day of muck diving planned and also want to photograph reptiles. So now we are left with 3 - if any of them will not be too useful, I'd be keen to know.
For big pelagics, I reckon the 10-20 will be the main one if they come reasonably close. Or do they stay some distance away, in which case I'll use the 17-70 instead. What about turtles? I could see myself shooting them with both 10-20 and 17-70. Also, I am also not sure if the fisheye will be useful.
It all depends on how close the critters get. Any thoughts from the folks that have been there and dived there?
Also, any other tips when it comes to preparing for shoots there?
Thanks,
Vandit
