Any experience with Tokina 12-24 on Ikelite?

  1. I currently shoot D70 with 60mm macro and 18-70 kit lens. Just got the Tokina 12-24, was wondering whether I should get a port for it. Hate the idea of proprietary port for each lens.

Am planning for a trip to Bali for Mola Mola between Jul-Sep this year.

Anyway, let me kow your experience whether it is worthwhile to burn a hole in my pocket, thanks.

  2. I haven't used the 12-24 yet (I've got the Nikon), but I agree with you on ports.

I just started diving and shooting last year and restricted myself to the 18-70 lens because I only had room in my Pelican case for 1 port.

As my underwater photography is getting better, I want to expand my options. I bought the 12-24 about a month ago, and I want to take one of my macro lenses underwater as well. Since I still don't have room for 3 ports in my case, I'm switching to the 8" dome port this year which should hopefully be easier to transport. One dome, plus a couple of extension rings shouldn't take much more room than a single 6" port.

  3. Sounds like we have very simular setups motz.

I have the tokina 12 - 24 and just the normal 6" dome from Ikelite for it.

I haven't had a whole heap of use out of it yet, but I am happy. My only gripe is the lense is so wide you have to put the body in then put the lense on through the port, but meh.

The lense does not focus well up very close on small objects (say a foot from object to tip of dome), I have wondered about adding a dioptre but not sure.

Here are some recent examples, sorry they are not full quality.

But I must admit I am wondering how I should transport all this gear and all these ports when I travel next (and hopefully that will be with a 105mm and port too!)
