I just purchased one and am awaiting its arrival. Just curious if anyone has tried one out.

YS27DX

I had to buy a new strobe on my last trip (2 of 3 YS90DX's I had crapped out). The YS27DX was the only one available. Spec wise its about the same as my YS90DX except that the 27 is strictly a slave strobe. It works great for macro but doesn't fire most of the time for longer distances. The slave sensor is recessed so strobe placement is more critical. Since I had a pair of S&S fiber optic cables & the external diffusers I created an easy solution to the slave only issue. Modify external diffuser so that fiber socket is at side of 90DX flash tube (vs top). The 27 has a socket. Since I thought that 1 fiber optic cable was not long enough to reach from 90 to 27, I joined 2 of them together via a short length of 0.25" ID tygon tubing, then secured the connectors in the tubing with small nylon cable ties. Works great - 27 fires every time regardless of how strobes are arranged.

I've used one with a Sea & Sea DX8000. It's actually quite usable, with manual power settings that work well. It definitely does little for wide angle, but macro won't be a problem.
The battery compartment is separate from the strobe electronics. If it floods, immediately clean out the battery compartment to keep the contacts from corroding and it will continue working with new batteries.

Good value for money - functional - no gimmicky magnets or other switches - works very well - great support from manufacturers.

Thanks...I got a deal I couldn't pass up. I got a new strobe, an arm, tray and fiber optic cable for $365 including shipping. I originally thought it was a misprint because every other vendor had it for over $500 for the same setup. Since I have ordered from this vendor before and actually had a topside DSLR replaced by them with no hassle I went ahead and made the purchase.
JCclink - I have the same issue. I have another strobe I'll be syncing off of and I've always found 1 fiber optic cable too short. I'd be interested in seeing a picture of that DIY cable connection.
