Light & Motion Macro port

  1. Hello everyone, I am looking for someone who has used the L&M macro lens for housings such as the HC1, HC3, etc. I think the lenses are relatively the same on this level of housing from L&M so to me it doesn't matter if it was an HC3 specifically.

I own the standard port and the wide angle port. I have found the standard to be a more usable lens due to the full zoom through; I really like the tele-macro feature of these cameras. Anyway, I am wondering what performance gain I would see by having a macro lens. Which lens would provide better magnification, the standard zoomed through or the macro? I am assuming the macro lens would produce a sharper image with a better shutter speed but I have been surprised before.

    Can anyone share their experience?

  2. Well, I am going to guess by the resounding response to my question that this is not very popular ;)

Since I did not get any love from the forum folks (rare), I contacted L&M to see what I could get out of them:

I was told that the magnification level of the macro is about the same as using TeleMacro on the camera. The focus range is 12-18 inches and has the same short focal length as the TeleMacro feature. So, as my contact put it, I would love to sell you this, but...

She told me that the HC3 video on the website (by Chuck) was done using the standard port and the TeleMacro feature.

    just and FYI...

I was thinking the same thing. Please don't take my post as negative; this is a great forum and rarely do I not get the help I am looking for.

Steve, thanks for correcting me. The HC3 and HC1 housings use the same lens(s) so I ~think my comment is still valid.
