'WETPIXEL TV' Idea's ????

Hi all,

Us video guys have started a debate on the merits of setting up a online TV station...Hypothetical for now.

Show casing our talents, world destination reviews, enviromental issues, award winning film previews and interviews with people in the industry etc etc..All the things you'd expect from a TV station full of world class underwater camera carrying loonies...

How about opinions from all of you out there..Not just us moving picture aficionado's..

What do you think..what would you like to see, how would you contribute..all input will be gratefully received..

Its a dream that might be a fantastic reality...

Lets hear it..

Interesting idea! Who is the audience? What are we promoting? Diving? Photography? Awareness? The range of topics is really endless depending on the audience, but topics such as these pop up in my coffee soaked brain at this moment:

1. Destination reviews

2. Marine life focus..i.e. Mantas, turtles, gobies, etc.

3. Getting into Photography/videography...ins and outs, equipment, use, etc.

4. Conservation issues

5. Photography education..wide angle, macro, specialty.

6. Incredible dive stories supported by vid and/or images

7. Political issues affecting marine life, dive sites, divers

Those are a few to get us going. I haven't a doubt that some great ideas will be forthcoming. This is really an intreresting idea that I would love to be a part of if there is a fit for me.

Hi Joe,

thanks for all the above...This is what I'm after...Idea's.

There is going to be an explosion of NET based tv and we should be at the fore front with the amount of talent we have..

Lets keep the idea's rolling in..

Another subject is what happens when you cut corners..diving, photo gear,

Also, a day in the life of a travelling diver...all the suff one goes through at airports, custome, blunders, overweight baggage, getting around rules, ruined vacations and why....

I'll keep thinking. Gotta go run and do a studio shoot of wedding rings.

Later.

Ha! wedding rings ...

Good topic would be what day jobs 90% of u/w video nuts have, to pay for their mainly non-profitable obsessions.

Or maybe I'm being too harsh. What about a series on "Making Underwater Video Pay" or "Selling Your Video Clips" ?

Yea I admit it, I don't just do UW. To prove it here are a few images from today's shoot. Not that it has anything to do with underwater photography, but one or two shots have water in them.

Joe

Gorgeous stuff Joe. Just as well my wife doesn't read these pages.

Like Garlic to a Vampire...

Whats that got to do with a TV station...Come on guys keep on track..

Nice ring shots by the way

I finally had time to look. Interesting. It seems to be a sequence of streaming videos. I poked around a little. The "schedule" on the side lets the viewer go back to a previous clip, but does not allow skipping forward to clips scheduled "later". It's possible to skip forward to the end of the current clip, but that loops you back to same clip instead of the next one.

Is the above the basic behavior that distinguishes an online tv station from a website with streaming clips?

I think it's best to use Flash Clips and a scrolling thumbnail that you click on to play the clip of interest with controls to it.

Abit like what we did on our site.

It's updatable by a simple XML file.

And keep it simple so it loads quick and stuff.....just like Google's page.

What's an online TV station?

My next post would have read "Are you taking the piss"? hehehe

Dean, in your attempt to be the next Rupert Murdoch I'd suggest you fill your balloons with Helium and not Lead!!

Sounds harsh but not meant to be. It's one thing to say but something completely different to do! The idea is a good one but one that I think you'd need to develop yourself. What would then set apart your idea from the ones already out there? None of the dedicated online underwater footage portals seem to be very well received. I guess its just a way too defined market. Lets face it, Wetpixel represents a very minuscule portion of divers, those with possibly a slightly higher disposable income to be able to throw relatively expensive imaging equipment into an already equipment intensive sport.

True that focussed here you have a very dedicated bunch who may well make this kinda idea work. But then all those who would need to build, pay for and maintain the site would have to be in accordance. It will be a big task to get off the ground.

Good luck my man. As someone recently said, "fight the good fight".

Cheers,

Mark.

Marky,

Its just an idea at the mo not a reality...Bit of fun that 'Might' run...

If it does come off though it was my idea...!!!He,he

Lets keep it real..

This would be everyones baby.
