  1. hi all

    as stated in another topic fantasea will shortly have a housing out for the coopix p5000.

    its stated that it wil have a 46mm thread for add on lwet lenses.

    my question is what 46mm thread wet lenses are out there?

    what is the most magnification wet lense availabe with 46mm thread?

    i see that epoque make 46mm lenses, what is there quality like?

    is there a 46mm to 67mm adaptor that would allow the fantasea housing to take the inon lenses?

    any info or comments apreciated :)

    regards

    matt

  2. Matt,

    Fantasea's wide angle lenses aren't too expensive (about $200). For other options..

    About a year ago, one of the Wetpixel memers (Gary) posted the following:

    Sea & Sea used to make a 16mm conversion lens for the Niknonos cameras. It had a 58mm thread. They sell for about $100 on eBay. Don't confuse it with their motoromarine lenses, which had a bayonet mount. 46-58mm step-up rings are about $8.

    We both use the Olympus PT-030 housing. The lens works quite well. Understand that the SWL16 requires water to focus, so it must be attached underwater. You will need to unscrew it at the beginning of every dive to let air out. Second, you need to zoom in just a bit to avoid vignetting in the corners. That takes you from a fisheye, to about 100 degrees.

    I took this lens to Fiji last year. These photos were all taken with the Sea & Sea lens: http://www.pbase.com/krancer/fiji_2006_

  3. Desert,

    Those reef shots are amazing. Puts my stuff to shame! I think you'll also be happy with this little bit of info. There are small holes in the metal port covering of the PT-030. This allows water in...so go ahead and leave it attached!! Anyway, have you found a way to store that lens if you take it off underwater. My BC has one pocket and everything of value seems to get lost. When I had time I was going to see if there was some sort of creative way to mount it to my TLC arms.

    Sounds excelent! Doesn't the step-up adapter move the lens further from the port? If it does, doesn't that mean that you will get vignetting? (your pictures seem excelent so that may seems not to be a prob)

    cheers

  5. Hi Oskar,

    The step up ring does move the lens slightly further. If the lens were right against the port, I'm guessing that the coverage would be about 170 degrees. With the step up ring it's probably 130 degrees. You do have to zoom in a bit to avoid vignetting, so that brings you to about 100 degrees. This isn't scientific.

    The attached photo didn't make it to my Pbase page. It was taken without zooming the lens at all. You can see the vingetting. It's also extemely wide.

  7. hi guys

    does anyone know anything about this un/olympus lense

    Olympus PCU-02 Macro Lens

    PCU-02 Macro Lens - for Olympus an other housings

    UN macro lens designed for all housings with 46mm diameter thread. In general Olympus housings have either 67mm or 42mm thread width. For 67mm width ports choose the PCU-01 macro lens.

    Step up and down rings are available to suit housings with a port diameter of 40.5mm (for PT-033 and PT-035) and 52mm (PT-034) - FREE with lens order, just mention in your order comments

    * Size: 52 mm ×15.6 mm

    * Depth rated to 40 meters

    * Magnification ratio: Approx x 6 times.

    * Weight: 56 g

    seems like it would allow for close macro shooting with the 6x magnification. was thinking of combining it with the fantasea housing(i understand the new housing will have a 46mm thread ) and my new coolpix p5000

    any comments re the image quality , sharpness , or build quality of this lense apreciated . the rec retail in australian dollars is $160

    thanks

    matt
