HC-7 or HVR-A1?

I’m planning purchasing a small HD video system and was leaning toward the Sony HC-7. However someone suggested that the Sony HVR-A1 might be better choice in that camera range? They said depending on the housing mfg it can have an assigned white balance button instead of having to go through a 5-7 step process with the touch screen? Plus the gain can be adjusted which can’t be done in the HC -7 camera? I had looked at the Fx-1 and it’s too big for what I’m looking for. I will be using the camera for fun off the Mid-Atlantic region mainly for wreck diving.

Any suggestions?

I would go the A1 for more manual control as you have already stated.

But it all depends on your budget.
