Bali Report and Photos

5 posts
  1. After getting married in Singapore, my wife and I went to bali, where we first met diving 1 1/2 years ago...

We dove nusa penida, Padang Bai, Amed, and Tulamben, doing 26 dives on 8 dive days...

Conditions were excellent, and all dive sites were great...having dove bali before, we knew the sites and hit up a good variety of environments...

photo galleries from the trip are here:

All photos were taken with my new D80, S&S housing, dual Ys-90dx's, and 60mm, 105mm, and 10.5mm lenses.

sightings included mantas, a huge mola mola that penny almost touched, 3 shark species, great barracuda, napolean wrasse, bumphead parrot fish, cuttlefish, sea snakes. large school of huge jacks that we were able to swim into.

Macro included pygmy seahorses, harlequin shrimp, many mantis shrimp, crocodile fish, frogfish, leaf scorpionfish, 20-30 nudie species, leafy filefish, bubble shrimp, ribbon, garden, moray eels, several triggerfish & sweetlips species, etc.

Watching the bumbhead parrotfish migration one early morning was amazing, we saw a family of 15 of them slowly swim over us, while we were diving at coral gardens, tulamben. They were flapping their fins like birds, so eloquent!

Huge mola mola getting cleaned, Tepekong canyon. The mola came within a couple feet of Penny, it was gigantic. We watched it for a few minutes before it swam away, I had to back up to take photos with the 60mm lens. Penny also saw a manta at this dive site.

  2. Congrats for your status change.

One trip with almost all you can sea u/w - great selection.

  3. You have some great shots in your gallery, you've done well with the lighting of the glass fish, they are a bugger to get right.

Makes me want to pack my bags now and go back. Bali is my favorite diving destination. Large variety of Diving locations, amazing animals, country side is beautiful and the people are lovely.

    Regards

    Gary

  4. Wow - honeymoon, new camera and great trip to Bali; what more can you ask for!? Looks like everything came out to play, and your D80 worked perfectly. Great website - I recognise a lot of the dive locations; Bali realy is first class when the conditions are good. So glad the Mola made a close encounters appearence, certainly a Bali highlight.

I know you were uber-busy in Singapore - next time Scott :)

  5. thanks alot guys, yeah it was a great trip

oh, I guess I'm a triggerfish now, cool.

hey Nick - I had really wanted to meet up, I couldn't believe how busy I was in singapore though! It was crazy, everything went well though... had the reception at the Esplanade at My Humble House, it was a really nice restaurant. definitely next time, or whenever you are in LA.

    Scott
