  1. Is there anyone here in the states who is using either of these housings? Would you be interested in renting it to me sometime this summer? It is for a pilot series for one of the major networks. Its a lot to ask but I can't buy one for a 5- 8 day shoot and will need to rent.

  2. Have you considered renting from Gates? Even in the same city... :)

  3. .....or you could hire the shooter with everything needed for the best results! I know of a cantankerous Brit dude with just the exact setup you need, lights too, who may just be available....:)

  4. cantankerous is about right..

Absobloodylutely, and proud at that. :)

  6. Unfortunately, I just found out that the rental for a week from Gates is 1200.00 and the audio connector needed for the shoot would have to be put in for another few hundred. They don't rent camcorders so I would have to get that as well.

Firstly Steve, is there any budget whatsoever for the project?

Secondly, and I know it hurts but we all want to service any work that comes in especially when it's for one of the 'Major Channels'. Unfortunately in this case it sounds as if you have very little cash to play with for the project. Looks like you may have to get them to understand your situation and ask for a budget increase or you may have to pass it on to someone who has the gear and the ability to do the job. I am sure there are many capable U.S based FX1 / Z1 enabled shooters, Wetpixel member? who would be willing and able to get the job done.

Sticky situation mate, good luck with it all.

    Best,

    Mark.

  8. Good points Mark, I have been asked to be 2nd camera by the producer who bought a few of my films for a pilot series a few years ago. Unfortunately, while I got paid well, the series never sold and my films are probably sitting in his library. I haven't asked him what the budget is as yet, though he told me that the pay is good and all flying and other expenses would be taken care of. The one caveat is that I had the right gear. I have only met him once and he is a heck of a nice guy and I know he is honest. This is one shoot I want to do and now have to figure a way to do it.

    Steve,

Here's your perfect opportunity to test the cohesion of your fellow Wetpixel members. Put a shout out on the main galley for help. There's gotta be someone, one of the members here who can help you out. If I was stateside mate my rig would be yours in a heartbeat.

    Good luck mate,

    Mark.

  11. Thanks Mark, your heart is always in the right place. I contacted the producer who said he might just go and rent the cam and housing for me once it is assured that the series is a go. Of course, I'd have to learn that cam right quick.

I think Dean is hoping you'll get to his territory with your Red very soon, hope he doesn't get drool all over the electronics.

    Dean,

Most people see me as a headstrong SOB, blinkered in my approach to life, work and to some extent a bit of a social misfit. I am what I am. Once you get through that exterior you'll find me to be a pretty decent chap. My trust in people has to be earned. Steve proved himself big time to be a dependable, decent human being, going out of his way to help me at a time when he never really knew me except via the board here. I trusted him with some serious issues and he came through with flying colors.

If you ever have the chance to prove yourself to me in a similar way I'll bend over backwards ( :) eek, I'll have to be careful what I say here) for you. Mi Casa, su casa. If that means at a time whenever I find myself back in 'civilization' with RED then it would be available.......maybe not FOC but at a token rate. Gotta pay for it somehow.

    Cheers,

    Cam(don't drop the soap)Diver

Oh God, putting whitty comments between brackets is catching!

  13. Your on my Playing field.. :)

  14. I believe Evan Kovacs shoots for Deep Sea Detectives using a Z1 in a Gates housing. John Chatterton himself might have the same rig. They are both based in the US. Might be worth a try. Check out http://www.lonewolfdg.com for Evan and http://www.johnchatterton.com for John.
