Zoom behind Hugy FE dome port?

7 posts
  1. Does anyone have reccomendations/experience/information regarding using a mid range zoom behind a Hugyfot FE port (acrylic 7"/17,5cm half hemisphere) or equivialent of other make?

    Sigma 18-50

    Sigma 17-70

    Nikon 18-70

    Nikon 18-50

    Nikon 17-55

    others?

The sigmas have very close focus (20 cm I believe) so they seem to be good alternatives for using behind a dome, wherwas the Nikons in general can't focus that close, but perhaps have better optical quality (at least the 17-55).

Will use it on Nikon DX sensor (D200).

  2. These are with the Nikon 17-55 and +2 dioptre and Subal FE domeport. Pretty sharp, and pretty close (no crop)post-5478-1178391023_thumb.jpg

  5. Hello Christian!

I use the D200 with sigma 17-70 with the big dome, 35mm ext ring and no diopters:

    At 17mm:

    At 70mm:

I did a side by side land comparision 17-70 & 17-55 and found them pretty equal imagewise but the price, the no need of diopters and the longer range made me buy the sigma.

Does Hugyfot have focus gear for the 17-70, or did you manufacture your own?

    cheers

  7. I don´t know if they have one but a friend of mine gave one for the nikon 18-35 that works perfectly. It only needs 30 seconds of handfiling to avoid a lock button. Another way is to use the velcro solution explained in the DIY forums (a friend of mine uses it for the tokina 10-17 and is very happy with it)
