Suggestions re diving Monterey

  1. We are hoping to visit Monterey/Yosemite this September.

Has anyone got suggestions regarding dive sites/operators/boats etc (we will only have a few days) and any other comments for visiting divers?

    Hi Paul,

Monterey diving is wonderful in the fall. Check out http://www.garlic.com/~triblet/ba_diving/ and scroll down to the link for Monterey Dive Boats and Dive Shops (and just about anything else boat/dive/Monterey related). Try and get into Point Lobos if you can. RSVP's are required on weekends, but not weekdays. Its a beautiful place above and below water.

    Best,

    Kathy

  3. Paul,

Send a PM to LarryC on this forum. He's a resident of that area and does quite a bit of diving.

  4. You certainly are coming at the right time of the year. As for boats, I have used them all and generally prefer the Monterey Express unless it's deep techie stuff.

If you intend to hit Point Lobos, let me know before you come, we'll bring a spare scooter for you so you can get to the good stuff.

    All the best, James

  5. I'll second Point Lobos, or Carmel Bay in general. It is very different from inside Monterey Bay. I recommend diving both areas, as they are very different. Monterey Express should be able to easily accommodate this. :-) Have fun! This is some of the best diving in the world!

  6. Here's a third vote for the Point Lobos/Carmel area. This is suberb diving although the the conditions can be challenging and the dive boats won't always go around the peninsula to this area.

On a different topic, PM me if you want any info on Yosemite - I've been climbing there for over 10 years and have made many visits - it's an amazing place.

    Cheers,

    Dan
