Ikelite to Gates or LMI adapter?

3 posts
  1. Does anyone have experiene with building / buying (where?) some kind of adapter that let's you mount a bayonet style lens from Gates or Light & Motion to an ikelite housing?

For my F707 housing I'm still trying to find some kind of Wide Angle solution. Gates makes a Wide angle port for their F707 housing, but it uses a bayonet kind of connection instead of the trheaded port of Ikelite.

The camera is the same, so my guess is the Wide angle lens would function as it should on my housing.

Any clues if this exists, or how to build? Will it work, or will an adapter screw up the optics of the WA lens, I mean if it is not attached at exactly the right spot on my housing?

  2. First question is to ascertain if these lenses can actually be used without zooming from widest angle setting to eliminate vignetting. Adding lenses accomplishes little if you must zoom the camera to avoid cutting off corners of the photos. We did not find any lenses that actually worked. We will try to make a special port to attach a lens you have that does work. The Sony wide angle lens is too large in diameter to be utilized inside the housing.

  3. Thanks!

I'll try and find a dealer that sells these lenses for some experiments.

I already tried an Inon one which indeed has major vignetting and won't work without much zooming.

I'm thinking of the Gates / Amphibico WA lenses for the F707 or the Tetra Wide Angle for Olympus E-20.
