Snail or what?

4 posts
  1. I found this little thing while I was waiting for a blenny to come out from it's hiding.

It's around 1 cm in lenght and moved quiet fast.

I have no clue to what it can be so I would be glad if someone could help me.

    Regards

  2. Looks like some kind of cowrie. Their mantles often cover their entire shell.

  3. Cowrie or ovulid. Lindsey Groves, one of our mollusc experts here at NHMLAC studies the group. I'll ask if he can put a name on it. do you have a pic with the mantle retracted & the shell exposed? The vast majority of molluscs are known only from their shells & sometimes even the experts can't id images of live ones. Where's it from?

  4. The picture is taken on 10 meters depth at a dive site called El Desha in the Hurghada area of the Red Sea.
