HK Charity Group bans Shark Fins Soup...

  1. http://www.thestandard.com.hk/news_detail....;d_str=20070514

Following the steps of Disney (well. after a lot of external pressure) and HK University, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals which holds numerous charity events in Hong Kong will ban Shark's Fin Soup from the menu...

Sadly, the local SAR government continues to serve Shark's Fin Soup at official banquets for foreign dignitaries... Maybe we need to find a list of upcoming diplomatic visitors and have their constituents petition them to refuse the shark fin soup if served...

  2. This is encouraging. Given Hong Kong is the mecca for the shark fin trade, any form of opposition from within is desperately needed.

Shawn, please, please call me as soon as possible! It's about our anti-shark fin exhibition in Hong Kong. We have a meeting with Ocean Park tomorrow, and I need to speak to you about a whole bunch shark fin related of stuff.

Alex, I'd be curious to hear more about this anti-shark fin exhibition. I'm a member of a local BSAC club in HK that have a lot of pro-conservation minded divers who would be very interested in this topic.
