Porceline Crab on Sea cucumber

6 posts
  1. Hi

i went diving again last sunday at my home town (lampung, Indonesia)

I found this crab on a sea cucumber

this carb is very tiny, less than 1cm.

iis anyone know what kind of crab is this??

it's blend so well with the sand+body of the sea cucumber.

    here are the pics

    All pics were taken by Nikon D50 + Sigma 105 macro + 2 Ys 90 autos (manual mode) 1/125 , F22

BTW, i kind of dont like using F22 for my macro shoot.

the reason is, when i shoot at F22, the result is not as sharp as when i took a pic using F16

    Is this normal??

F16 give me a sharper image, comapare to F22

    any idea??

    Thx you in advanced

    Andree

  2. Nice shots, I am sure our invert experts will know what it is, I will move it to the critter ID area...

About the aperture, that's strange, my photos usually get sharper (more DOF) with smaller apertures. Can you repeat the problem under a controlled circumstance on land? Maybe the photo with F22 was just out of focus.

  3. It has simiarities to Lissocarcinus orbicularis, with reverse colouring (in Debelius, this is mentioned as possible). They are known to be commensal with sea cucumbers. They tend to be browner than this one appears.

  4. OHHHHHHHHH..!!

Thx you for the information of this crab ^.^

now i know what is it.

And for ROcha, Yes, i will do some test for my sigma 105mm on land.

I hope it will give a a sharper image at F22

    Thx you for your advised!

    Best Regards

Andree, did you mean DOF or sharpness? At least on land, most lenses should be sharpest from around f8 to two stops below max - it should be sharper at f16 than f22. That said, all things being equal (proper focus, exposure, same shutter speed), it's hard to tell the difference without a pretty tight crop. Did you slow the shutter speed down at f22 to get the right exposure, or adjust exposure in some other way? Slower shutter speed could mean more camera shake.

Hi Sorry to make all of you confused...

i was pretty sure that i didn't shake my hand at all, when i shoot this crab.

the speed was 1/125 F22 and im using dual Strobe.

Actualy my question is, i have seen a lot of review that most of lenses nowdays when you are shooting with digital SLR. You can't get a sharp result, when you are using small aperture...

For example, please take a look at this lens test.

    http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/50-comparison/f-stops.htm

If this example is not enough, then i can give you more link of lens review...

Most of the lens, wil give u the SHARPEST image at F8-11

above that aperture, will give you unsharp image.

The pics will look a little bit hazy

(Sorry i wasn't not talking about the DOF ^.^ )

Please advise me if this is correct....

    THX YOU

once again sory to make all of you confused

    Andree
