D 70 settings

  1. Trying to think out my setting for starting out with the 60 mm D70 and the SB 105. Let me know if I am thinking right

shutter speed 120 (2x focal length of lens)

aperture( using guide # of strobe)

    3 ft f11- f8

    2 ft f f 11-f16

    1 ft and under f 16 -22

color balance -Flash- automatic or cloudy or Custom -any idea what the color temp of the SB 105 is?

Do you ever hand hold the strobe to bracket exposure with a housing?Or is the housing to heavy?

Exposure meter -Matrix metering center weighted or spot ?

    Auto focus dynamic area

auto focus/exposure lock on ( i guess the exposure lock wont matter as I am shooting in manual)

image quality large jpeg or raw and jpeg

    am I thinking right

That values works fine to me also

I use auto, can be changed later since I shoot RAW

    I like spot or centric

    Same for me

image quality large jpeg or raw and jpeg

I shoot always RAW, If from some reason I need fast results for review I use raw and basic jpeg

    am I thinking right

  3. Thanks!!!!!

  4. Thanks!!!!!

    One suggestion...

set your display to show a 3-color histogram after each shot, that way you can instantly see if you need to adjust your aperture...

auto-white balance works well for me

    hope this helps,

    Scott

Unfortunately, the D70 doesn't have a 3-color histogram (only one), but I do agree that the histogram is helpful. I always have the review set on either histogram or highlights to quickly check exposure.

I shot RAW+jpeg, and normally auto white-balance. Metering is normally center-weighted. Auto focus is dynamic area and continuous. I know some people recommend single auto focus, but I prefer continuous, as you can just use the AF/AE lock when needed.

    Thanks very much !!!!

  7. I occasionally hand hold my strobes but not to bracket. I have an Ikelite removable segment so that I can backlight a scene or get some strobe position I'm not able to get while attached.

The housing wile underwater isn't too heavy to do this but I'm glad I have strobe arms for most of my shooting.
