  1. The AUS media are plain idiots.

I cannot believe how they are milking this as much as they can.

All they care about is making money. :)

    2.5 metre shark yeh right.

I think they were doing abit more than just walking in the shallows. :)

It's only a matter of time before someone gets taken Whale Sharking here as well with all the small rec fishing boats berling up and trolling right in between the Whale Shark operators boats. They really are going to destroy this place and there are more and more of them every year. Fishing inside the lagoon should be band outright. The other Tuesday there was like 50+ 4x4 with boats at the same boat ramp as everyone Whale Sharks from. I have never seen anything like it in 12 years of living here.

Welcome to Ningaloo, just don't use the toilets :)

It's abit of a shame it did not bite more of them and maybe they will be fined as well :)

Did you know that more people are killed each year by soda vending machines than sharks. :)

  3. I watched an interview with this women in which she openly stated that " she was left with the gidge for protection".

Translation of the term "Gidge" for non West Australians is handspear or sling.

I wondered what she was doing in a marine reserve with one of these?

Perhaps our man on the spot ( Wags this is you ) could find out if spearing is an lawful activity in this location ?

  4. It all depends were they were as there is a general use and sanctuary zones around that area.

They are slowly putting in more controls but it takes time to educate&change the West Australian mentality :)

It's really bizzare to turn up at the boat ramp with over 100 pax paying $300 each at the same boat ramp as 50, 4x4 with boats that are out to kill and harras eveything just for fun with bins full of stinking dead fish and beer bottles at the toilet block :)

I think the town is trying to work out which way to go and there are allot of older folks here that are realy set in their ways. The shire needs an overhaul of fresh thinking people as well. Mining and industry or nature based eco tousim? Which way?

    Spearfishing is prohibited

in all waters between Tantabiddi and

Winderbandi Point and state-wide in all

rivers, dams and tributaries with the

exception of estuarine cobbler, which may

be taken by handspears only. Spearfishing

on compressed air or free-diving is generally

permitted in ocean waters, except in

marine parks and reserves where fishing

on compressed air is often prohibited. You

may not spear tuskfish and wrasse (Family

Labriadae) or cods and coral trout (Family

Serranidae) within the Ningaloo Marine Park.

See marine park guides (available from

the Department of Conservation and Land

Management) for details of marine park

    boundaries.
