ID on this Australian seahorse/pipehorse?

  1. A friend of mine from Sydney Australia sent me this intriguing photo he shot at Wollongong Island at the Pinnacle. He said it was tiny (approx. 1/2 inch). It has a pipefish shape with a prehensile tail. Could it be one of the pipehorses? He's never seen it before, nor have I. What do you all think?

BTW, he gave permission to use the photo in this post,

  2. It is a Sydney's Pygmy Pipehorse Idiotropiscis lumnitzeri known from Sydney and Jervis Bay (and Wollongong is right in between).

They are tiny and cute

  3. Thank you for the info. It has been passed on.

    DANG IT!! I'm sooooo envious!
