Olympus E-410 and E-510

  1. Any news on non-Olympus housings for either of these Olympus DSLR cameras?

I bought a used Canon 20D over the winter before a trip to NZ, thinking I'd pick up an Aquatica or Ikelite housing for it sometime this summer. I really like the 20D, but now I see that Olympus is offering three inexpensive DSLRs that allow you to use the LCD screen to frame shots. I would think this Live View feature would make life much easier for u/w photographers, especially guys like me who are graduating from point-and-shoots. And judging from some posts here on Wetpixel, people do seem to love the Live View.

I've gathered that the E-510 is coming out in July; the E-410 is already available and the 7.5MP E-330 has some non-Olympus (Ike, Fantasea) housing options. I'm tempted to offload my 20D and lenses and either wait for the E-510 or grab the E-410 right now, but only if someone other than Olympus is going to offer a housing before October (honeymoon).

Any news on this front? I'm guessing that Ikelite will step up, since they've already got one for the E-330.

And if anyone is interested in talking me into standing by my 20D and not leaving her for these sexier, lighter cameras, I'm all ears....

  2. Dan,

Don't do it.......The NEW cheaper "live preview" Olys are no speed demons even being SLR cameras. Initial info from a friend even says these new models don't produce as sharp of files as from your existing Canon 20D.

Learn to shoot with the viewfinder. It's not that hard and you will be a happy camper

PM me with any more questions, especially since I just used a buddy's Canon 20D for a week in Grand Cayman.

  3. Thanks. I figured there must be some reason these cameras were going for $700-900.
