After much reading on the Tokina 10-17mm I went and bought one, after trying it out (oh and no it's not another Tokina 10-17 thread:) it seems that it is wider at the 17mm range than my Nikor 17-55mm was? I can't really say for sure now as I sold the 17-55mm, but it looks quite a bit wider, could that be? Do some makes and model differ or is there some kind of standard set out that manufactures follow?

Are all lenses the same?

It will be wider because it's a fisheye lens, not a rectilinear one.

Fisheye is the keyword here.
I asked more or less the same question in this thread:

Can someone post a picture of a fisheye shot and then one taken with a standard WA lens? I dont think I know what the effect of a fisheye is. Does it just take a wider angle photograph at a given mm setting?

Attached is a picture made by Wm LIu. I Cant find a direct link anymore.

It explains the behaviour of a 15mm FE on a cropped camera. The less cropped, the more extreme this behaviour will be.
