I have snorkeled in the Caribbean and now I want to see an indo-pacific reef with Stoney Corals.
I am in Michigan. Unfortunately Hawaii is out of the question but is their some place on the western side of mexico, central america that has cheaper air fairs?
Thanks.
Hmm - Hawaii is probably your best bet if you want to see stony corals economically. Fares from LA aren't that bad.
The only other close place I can think of would be Costa Rica, but the coral on the Pacific coast aren't that good and the viz is usually very limited. I dove near Tamarindo and it was fun for the fish life, and there were some Pocillopora sp. but not much.
Cheers

Do you have any pics of what you saw? Also where did you stay? What did it cost you total? Thanks!
There is a great coral reef out of La Paz in the sea of Cortez. A little further south is Cabo Plumo near Cabo San Lucas.
The reef out of La Paz is very doable as a free dive and a very good reef. But you need to get there by boat. They are the only two coral reefs I know of in that area. Otherwise Hawaii is your best option.

Hello and thanks! Do they have snorkeling tours? I am not certified and will not be able to get a certification any time soon. Thanks!
