Night Diving Lighting

1 posts
  1. I am going diving in a few weeks and am trying to find a solution to shoot underwater at night. I have a point and shoot (Nikon Coolpix 4300) with a Fantasea housing (CP-4) and a strobe (Fanatasea Nano Flash.) My strobe is just a basic model, and doesn't contain an integrated focusing light. I've tried juggling both an underwater light and a camera at the same time, and it is not an option. I can't switch filters and change dials with the light consuming my left hand. If I stow the light on my BC and just dive primarily with the camera, I am concerned that a) the camera won't be able to accurately focus without some light and b ) I won't be able to see without a light. I am looking for some suggestions on an inexpensive solution to getting enough light to see, and for the camera to focus. I've considered using underwater Velcro to attach an inexpensive pocket dive light to the bottom of the tray of my camera. Is this a good approach? Will a pocket light provide enough light to see where I'm going? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I've explored dedicated focus lights, but I would prefer to find a more inexpensive way of solving this problem.
